Playing in a rock band doesn’t just mean you stand there and play loud. You have to emit attitude and pour every fiber of your body into your playing. This emotion and attitude translate into some cool, and sometimes strange poses on the stage. Now I’m not talking pose as in posers, I’m talking involuntary pure rock and roll stances by some of the best.
Freddie Mercury
Freddie Mercury commanded the stage like no other before him and none since. He is a study in the ultimate entertainer and a true rock icon who’s presence on stage could not be ignored. He was commanding yet very giving. He was a larger than life figure that could convey the song to the back row of every stadium he played.
Eddie VanHalen
Not only did Eddie revolutionize guitar playing, he flat out reinvented it in some ways. His antics on stage are equally impressive. His ever present smile and acrobatics matched the playing he is so well known for.
Steve Harris
Normally bass players take a back seat in the band. This is certainly not the case with Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. Steve is out front with his foot up on the monitor laying down some menacing bass lines. This pose has become so iconic that the band even has a T-shirt with their mascot Eddie wielding a bass and striking the same pose.
Mick Jagger
Mick Jagger is one of Rock and Roll’s greatest front men. His presence on the stage is lager than life. His unique chicken walk could almost be comical yet he pulls it off. He commands the stage and captivates the audience like nobody’s business.
Chuck Berry
Chuck Berry is one of the early greats in Rock and Roll. His upbeat songs and signature riffs made him a legend. Berry’s trademark “Duck Walk” also left a lasting impression on the world. Not only was he playing guitar like no one had heard before, he was doing it while crouched down waddling across the stage.
