It's summer time and the sun is high. The workday is over and your throat is dry. Go to the fridge and get yourself a beer then check our your Rock Anthem of the Week here.
This weeks anthem is one by a very influential group of Brits with a strange name. This song called young men all over the world to spread the news.
This weeks Rock Anthem of the Week is All the young dudes by Mott the Hoople.
This David Bowie penned song took Mott the Hoople to stardom. In 1972 the album All the young dudes was released and the single of the same name took the charts by storm.
The soulful opening guitar line accompanied by organ does not give one any indication that this is an anthem for the Glam Rock movement of the early 70's yet when you here Ian hunter's delivery of lines such as "I need TV when I got T-Rex" gives the feeling of empowerment to the youth of the day. You can't help but sing along when this song comes on. It is almost a mandate that everyone withing earshot give their voice to the chorus.
While somewhat melancholy and subdued in the verses, this song truly deserves rock anthem status.
