Slash – Guitar hero?

Slash Well Slash has been in the news a lot lately with the release of his new album this month.  He’s been on Leno and George Lopez, and his album was streamed to millions.  The new Appetite Les Paul signature guitar was released by Gibson.  Marshall Amplification is hard at work on the AFD 100 Signature head. From his work on all the great GnR albums to Velvet Revolver, it should go without saying that this all sounds like the making of a guitar legend.

Well not according to the BBC.  The BBC’s 6 Music's Axe Factor online poll has former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante voted as the best guitarist of the past 30 years.  Our pal Slash made number two on the list.  I’m not even going to address the great number of guitarists missing from that list.   Sounds like the BBC listeners just don’t fancy Slash as the guitar hero that we all really know he is.

So what does Slash think?  Well when asked by bangshowbiz.com Slash stated he does not think he is a guitar legend either.

"All of the guys who I consider guitar legends are people who are pioneers of electric guitar and rock 'n' roll in particular, and blues guitar as well and I'm struggling to keep up. It's a work in progress, so I definitely don't put myself in the 'legend' category."

Well even is Slash himself or the BBC don’t think he’s a guitar legend, the rest of us will still look up to him as a source of inspiration.  The accomplishments of the man in the top hat cannot be denied.
