back to basics

SDC10318 I have been spending a lot of time writing lately.  I have gone way to long without recording any new music.  I did some time in the cover band circuit so I have been active musically but now I am on a creative whirlwind.

The great thing about this is that the music is flowing.  Being a musician you have to capture it when it happens. To facilitate this I have been using a stripped down rig at home.  Just a guitar, a Blues Jr. and the occasional pedal.

I am loving the raw back to basics nature of this rig.  It lets me really work on the music without getting caught up in the tone, the gear, or anything else.  The strangest thing is that I am working on riffs and songs in all sorts of genres and the rig is not getting in the way of any of it. From rock to country to metal to 60’s style groovy ghoulie music, everything is working right now.

This is a great exercise to occasionally go back to the basics and challenge yourself to create with just the most basic tools.
