Rock Anthem of the Week: August 1st

The weekend is here and it's time to have fun. No to do list today, so you get nothing done. While relaxing at home with a beer in your hand, check out the Rock Anthem of the week from a groundbreaking metal band.

This weeks Rock Anthem of the Week is Livin after midnight by Judas Priest.

Judas Priest were early pioneers of the British Metal movement. They created the look of leather and studs that so many bands would emulate. Yet within the heavy guitar riffs and menacing snarls the band managed to fit some catchy hooks and create a song that would become a rock anthem the world over.

The simple guitar riff and moderate tempo lend itself to freely banging your head along. Rob Halford, although famous for his range kept the vocals centered on this song. No wild screams, just straight forward delivery.

The chorus praises the nightlife that many rockers embraced. This wasn't a 9 to 5 job. Rock and Roll lives in the shadows of the alleyways and under the neon glow. The simple solo also lent itself to the formula that made this song what it is. Don't try to get tricky just keep it simple and let it rock.

The song is one of the first that any beginning guitarist learns and is definitely a staple in the set list of many cover bands around the world.
