Rock Anthem of The Week: July 10th

It's getting hot and the sun is blazing. The week has been long and your ready for something amazing. So to pick you up if your feeling bleak, here's the rock anthem of the week.

I'm taking a bit of a turn off my normal beaten path this week. I come from the less is more three chord rock school. This week we are going to delve into something a little more progressive yet still powerful.

The Rock Anthem of the Week is Tom Sawyer by Rush.

Rush has long been a musicians band. There progressive writing and odd meters made for some great listening to those who could truly appreciate it. With the release of Tom Sawyer the band had a bit of a stripped down sound and feel. The heavy punches in the verses and a simple keyboard drone made this a powerful song.

The progression into the moving guitar line makes the song seem like it's taking off into normal Rush territory but still maintains that heavy rock drive. The solo kicks in and we hear the signature riff from Geddy Lee's bass playing under Alex Lifeson's masterful solo.

Out of the solo we get the coolest drum roll's from Neal Peart. An amazing feat that he seems to hit each drum on his kit multiple times within a few seconds. All these elements make this Canadian trio's song a rock anthem that's worthy of mention.
