Rock Anthem of The Week : June 5th 2009

It's Friday. Time to kick off your shoes and take a step back. The Rock Anthem of The Week is here and it's a hell of a track.

The rock anthem of the week this week is Hair of the Dog by Nazareth.

Released on the Scottish band's album of the same name in 1975, this song had all the ingredients to make a great rock anthem. A killer riff that had an unmistakable groove(yes, cowbell and all), the scorching vocals, and lyrics with real attitude.

Contrary to many popular opinion's, the song's title is not referring to the old hangover cure, a little hair of the dog that bit you. The title according to the band's singer Dan McCafferty, is a play on the phrase "heir of the dog", hence the chorus "Now your messin with a son of a bitch".

The song has been covered by the likes of Guns and Roses and Warrant. This song has been a staple on rock radio for 30 plus years and is definitely a true rock anthem for those who aint gonna take any crap from anyone.
