With all the press lately about fender losing it’s case to trademark some of it’s most popular guitar bodies I got to thinking about other patents and trademarks as they apply to the guitar world.
As I was sifting through some strange and some seemingly useful patents I came across a patent for a guitar shaped guitar stand. At first I thought,” cool, it will fit my guitar like a glove”. Then I started thinking about it. Unless he makes it in the shape of an un-trademarked or un-patented guitar then this patent itself will violate other patents and trademarks.
So now what does this guy do. He can’t make this thing in any popular shapes. Nobody else can make a guitar shaped stand since this unknown inventor holds the patent. Maybe he’s hoping one of the big guitar companies will pay him a bunch of money so they can make stands in the shapes of their own guitars.
What a strange world it is.
