The true meaning of Rock and Roll does not take a vacation!!

I have used the catch phrase “Rock and Roll does not take a vacation!!” for a few years now. To me it meant that regardless of what life had in store for me, I would always have the guitar and rock and roll as an outlet. It was not going to be away on vacation, if I needed it, it was there. My music helped define me and gave me a voice.

There could be other ways to define that term. Maybe it means that your band just never gives up. You don’t take a vacation, you keep gigging, recording, and promoting. Maybe it means that the rock and roll lifestyle is such that it is like being on vacation all the time. However you would like to define this term, I think this photo has confirmed my beliefs in this phrase.

Here is Pfc. Anthony Vandegrift diligently riffing away in the middle of Afghanistan. I think this says it all. Even in the middle of one of the most dangerous places in the world, this soldier still has the drive and passion to pick up the guitar and get his chops on. This indeed defines “ Rock and Roll does not take a vacation!!” to me.

I applaud Private Vandergrift not only for his dedication to the guitar but the dedication to our country. I am a staunch supporter of our armed forces. The men and women of all branches have been asked to take on some extremely daunting tasks over the years and through it all they perceiver with their heads held high. it’s great to see the guitar helping them unwind and take a break from the extremely difficult job they have.

Right with you.

That guitar, by the way, is a more powerful weapon than anything else this guy could carry. It symbolizes freedom of expression like no cruise missile can, and, as such, holds our country's greatest strength.

PFC Vandegrift is a personal friend of mine and introduced me to my husband, who was there with him when this pic was taken. According to him, Vandegrift was playing the Star-Spangled Banner. Just some food for thought.

Where do you want to go?
