The man that bucked the hum

rgl pickupfade small In the history of electric guitar there are a few names that pop up all the time. Adolph Rickenbacher, who filed the patent for the "frying pan" guitar in 1934 surely comes up when the topic of the early years is discussed. Les Paul, who put together the "Log" and worked with Gibson on the solid body guitar that bears his name surely wouldn't be left out. Leo Fender brought us some of the first solid body guitar models which are still in production today.

While there are many more names associated with the advances in electric guitar there is one who I think really helped create what would become the Rock and Roll sound. Seth Lover worked for both Fender and Gibson during the golden era of electric guitars. There is no doubt that this man has left his mark on the guitar world in many ways. His biggest accomplishment being the invention of the dual coil humbucking pickup.

I found an a gem of an interview with this man over at guitarHQ. The interview was conducted by Seymour Duncan back in 1978. Who better to interview the man who invented the humbucker than the man who has since created some of the coolest pickups including the Seth Lover model.

Check out the interview.
